The Tour of Hope is a fundraising event for the annual Tree of Hope Campaign. The Tour of Hope is not a race, it’s an endurance challenge. With a total distance of about 650 KM to travel on four days, cyclists will ride between 150 KM to 200 KM per day. Of course, numerous pit stops are planned along the way. Those well-deserved breaks will give cyclists a chance to recover and make necessary adjustments to their bikes.Follow the adventure from July 25-28th, 2019 on our social media.

1. Where do the funds go?

The Tree of Hope’s mission is to improve comfort and care for cancer patients through the purchase of specialized equipment for the Dr.-Léon-Richard Oncology Center, and by offering advanced training opportunities for specialized oncology teams here in New Brunswick.

Projects funded are based on the needs identified at the Dr.-Léon-Richard Oncology Center and in other Dumont UHC departments offering a continuum in oncology care, for example, regional satellite units. Each year, projects are proposed and executed based on needs expressed and funds raised throughout the province and elsewhere.

Over the years, this campaign has also enabled the construction of the Mgr.-Henri-Cormier Lodge, where close to 2,000 people are accommodated free of charge each year. This number includes patients from outside the Greater Moncton area requiring cancer treatment not available in their region, as well as a companion. Funds raised each year also help ensure major maintenance projects at the Lodge.

The Tree of Hope campaign also helps to support cancer research efforts undertaken here in New Brunswick.



2. How much money do I have to raise?
If your intention is to complete the four days of the 2019 Tour of Hope and you register to the event during early-bird registration, your total commitment will be $1,000. If you register after this date, your total commitment will be $1,500.

3. How should I proceed with my fundraising efforts?
You can ask your friends, family members or local businesses to support you. Participants will also have their own fundraising webpage that they can share on social media and by email.

4. Is my current fitness level adequate to participate in the Tour of Hope?
The Tour of Hope is not a race; it’s an endurance challenge. It’s important to be in good physical shape to take part in this event. You should be able to ride in a peloton at an average speed of 25 km/hour, and be able to ride a total daily distance of 150 to 200 km. Those taking part in the four days of the 2019 Tour of Hope will travel about 650 km. You should also know that participants always have the option to take a break. They can sit in one of the support vehicles, and hop back on their bike at the next pit stop.

5. How much does it cost to register?
The 2019 registration fee is $160.

6. What’s included with the registration fee?
Snacks, meals, accommodations, technical team, cycling vest and promo kit are included with the registration fee.

7. What’s NOT included with my registration?
You’re responsible to bring all the equipment that you need to participate (bike, cycling shoes, helmet, clothing, etc.). The Tour will, however, provide an official jersey that you will have to wear during the event. It’s important to note that the Tour will NOT provide gels. If you plan on using gels to maintain your energy levels during the event, please make sure to bring enough of them in your luggage.

8. Where will we stay during the Tour?
Schools, colleges and universities will be used for accommodations. You are required to bring your own inflatable mattress and sleeping bag. Accommodations are clean and have showers. 

9. Can I take part in the event for one or two days?
Yes. Some people want to take part in the event, but are not available for the full distance. You have the option to join the peloton for one, two or three days. For information regarding registration fees and fundraising commitments, please contact us.

10. Do you need volunteers?
We do! Maybe your friend, spouse of close one is taking part in the event and you also want to be a part of the adventure? You can as a volunteer. Our team is always looking for dedicated and energetic people who want to help out. We need volunteers for our support team, security team, meal preparation, etc. For more information, please contact us.
